So how rare is a three dot 1870 Newfoundland $2? Population levels

    Does anyone know how many Obverse 1, with the three dots were struck in 1870? I know from the J and M catalogue that 10,000 coins were stuck in 1870 but this figure aggregates Obverse 1 and Obverse 2 for that year.
    The three dot is is universally described as rarer than the two dot, but how much rarer is the question.

    This is a long shot as I've even asked the Royal Mint Museum.....they've not got back to me yet.

    I cannot answer your question, but i will wish you luck on an answer that leans towards it being much rarer lol
