Collecting Presidential Dollars

Well, it finally happened. I've been collecting all the Presidential Dollars since 2006; first the Proof sets, then the P & Ds. Starting in 2010 I decided to add to my acquisitions the P & D "A" and "B" edge lettering orientations. Now I've decided to obtain the opposite orientations to my 2006, '07, '08 and '09 Presidential Dollar collection to further enhance it. Anyone else collecting both P & D varieties?

I'll watch, but as I am not interested in error coins, I'll probably sell any found to buy some of the scarcer 1935 (my birthyear) silver coins I need (i.e. Great Britain Trade Dollar, New Zealand 3 Pence and Crown, Hungary 2 Pengos, Romania 250 Lei, ect.

I have an album for both the P&D, but since the A & B orientations are presumably 50% of each, I don't consider it a variety worth collecting. So, I just get one of each and leave it at that. That's my 2 lincolns anyway.

 

I collect them with great enthusiasm. My set is composed of PDS, and as someone has already pointed out, I don't consider the A and B positional letter a variety worth spending extra money on. However, you enjoy and keep us informed of your progress.

 

The 1935 250 Lie from Romania is a really cool coin with Carol II. Please post it when you get one. This is my 5 Lei from Romania which depicts Carol I.

 

I have a Dansco PD with Position B and Intercept Shield PD with position A. The Dansco has a cover on it but they are still all toning (and VERY nicely I must say! Orange/gold). The Intercept are pretty much tone-free. My PDS books have the satins in them but I didn't break that down by edge position.

 

I collect the P&D presidential dollars, the presidential proof sets, and the cover series coins. I have at least three complete sets of all of them. I like the history part of these coins but not necessarily the aestestics.

I don't know. I think there is some aestetic value. I really enjoy Statue of Liberty on the reverse. (Not so much the "$1" but can't be perfect.) I also enjoy the looks of the presidents. Poor Jackson looks like he had a little too rough of a night before he posed for his coin.

 

Yes, the reverse is great.

Thanks for pointing my error. (2006 Presidential Dollars) With only my left eye and right finger I missed the mistake (Presidential Dollars weren't minted until 2007.

I know the mint explains that as fact, but in 1886 they said something similar about the Indian Head cent and again in 1935 about the number of rays on the Peace Silver Dollar.The last two years the Red Book has been adding such coins (with slightly higher prices) to the listings. That helped change my mind.


This is not a post to get you to change your collecting choices, but only to express the reasoning for mine.
