I really like a nice golden toned merc or a little blue toned merc, but this just seems rediculous! http://cgi.ebay.com/1941-D-Mercury-...45?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item23093a8f91 If AT how do they do this?
Looks like something was applied and then carried in the pocket for a time, antiquing the coin removing the higher reliefs. Not my cup of tea. Give me the blast white coins.
I agree with the blast white coins. I like them as well, but I also like the slightly toned ones as well, because they show some age. This coin just looks dumb to me. Almost like it was colored with markers then wiped with a tissue.
Some coins look nice toned just a little: http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1894_NDN_HEAD.jpg But it always makes me question on why it toned this way. Maybe a Whitman folder can tone them. One way to tell is if it is on the obverse and not the reverse. We will never know for sure now what we are doing to our coin that will ruin them in the future. I remember the different things done to coins. Freezing, heating, dipping, lacquering, storing in envelops, PVC damage, soft tubes storage, cleanings, olive oil ..... the list will go on. But the affect what we do now to our coins might probably make us shake our heads in the future.
Nah this is a whitman folder toning its quite pretty not super blatant but nice regardless That one linked is just pure ugly http://cgi.ebay.com/1945-S-Mercury-...02?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3360759572
