Hello all, I did a big purchase. More of a group buy. I did run across this coin which I bought it for the silver purpose ( hope it's silver) but when I got home I found ou it's a RCMP Royal Canadian Mint Coin. It came in it's original box etc.

Can you guys tell me what it's worth or history?

    Thanks,

Also, would you keep this together or slap it in a 2x2 card?

It's a Canadian silver dollar (50% silver 50% copper) commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They sell for $25 to $35 in UNC. condition.

Thanks....Does the case it came in make a difference in value?

The case would help in selling it. The coin looks to be scratched and covered with fingerprints which would put the value down to about $10 - $15. Check on ebay and you can see the range of conditions and the corresponding prices.

Keep it all together but be aware the foam padding may deteriorate over time. If it is in direct contact with the coin you may find it adhering to the surface and ruining it. I had a mess with some foam that broke down and stuck to some very expensive telescope eyepieces. You might want to place something inert between the coin and the foam.

Also a quick dip in pure acetone could help those fingerprints from doing further damage. IMHO

The guy I bought it from bought it and put it away years ago. When I opened it I can see where the foam started to affect the coin. On the flip side it was shiny. I took care of the finger print and placed the coin in a cardboard fold. I mainly bought this for the silver content. Thanks for the advice guys.
