My favourite ones so far are the huge 10$ bills i have in my collection. The least are the single-sided QEII Government notes. They look worse than monopoly money.
James,I like those Hong Kong 1 Cent banknotes.I don't know of any other British Commonwealth-associated country that has issued a banknote for 1c. apart from Malaya as well as Hong Kong. Aidan.
unified it why not unified its currency into one standard note instead of three different bank notes?. or just use the people's china currency.
Elaine,Hong Kong has very high autonomy, including control of its own economic system until 2047.A similar situation applies to Macao as well. Hong Kong will be issuing a plastic banknote this year to commemorate 10 years since the reversion to Chinese rule. If anyone offered me a Hong Kong banknote dated 1st. of July 1997 or later,I won't buy it,as they're not British Commonwealth issues. Aidan.
Nice revival of this Hong Kong banknote topic. 3 banks plus Hong Kong Govt SAR. i understand it is fairly difficult for older Hong Kong citizen to distinguish the various bank banknotes. It is also a difficult task for me as a collector to collect all the Hong Kong banknotes with a special serial number 555555. Here is my modest Hong Kong solid collection. Derrick,I suppose that you are keeping the colonial Hong Kong banknotes separate from the S.A.R. issues. I find them very easy to distinguish, just by looking at the dates. Aidan.
In my case, I don't have a problem identifying the various Hong Kong banknotes. I am still not a senior citizen yet. The feedback from my relatives who are Hong Kongers, said so for older folk. My problem is collecting every pieces of the Hong Kong notes with a serial number 555555. Just too many to collect both current and earlier series. They are also pricely, hard to find and speculative especially with Hong Kong collectors.
Derrick,I know Howard Mitchell, who is an Auckland banknote & coin dealer.I actually work for John Eccles, whose twin brother,Peter Eccles is also a coin dealer in Auckland.John lives in Wellington. I love to tell people that the Eccles brothers are the only twin coin dealers in the entire British Commonwealth. Aidan.
Aidan - Thanks. I actually met Howard in Singapore when he was here at the Singapore Coin Show. I thought you work for Howard. Anyway thanks.
