I am new to looking for error coins so I really don't know if these are errors or just damaged coins. This quarter I found in change. It's a 2000 Virginia quarter with a dent in it. When I looked at it zoomed in the 0 in 1607 looks like it has a line through the bottom. Is this just a damaged coin?
The one with the dent in it? Is the opposite side normal of pressed out in that area? When a coin is hip with something it presses out the opposite side. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1914-D_Cull.jpg If it is a struck though error, the opposite side is normal. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1941_Struck_through_Wire.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1961_struck_through_wire_included_Photogame.JPG So it depends on what the opposite side shows to see if it is a dent or a struck through error. The second coin is just a bag mark or circulation damaged coin.
Bottom one(Virginia) looks just damaged. I suggest an expert look at this though and post his opinion.
The 2 pictures are from the same coin. The front looks just like a normal quarter. It just has the dent in the back. Is a struck through error of any value? I've only started looking at change in the last few weeks so I'm really new to looking for errors. Thanks!
Probably hard to tell with circulation damage. If it were BU, then we would have a better idea. It could something as simple as reeding damage from another coin or a struck through error. At this point it would be hard to tell. But I'm figuring it would be worth face value for it. You might save it to show another collector to see if he sees something I didn't see from the images.
