Could it be? Did I maybe actually find something interesting this time? Or is it the same ol MDD or PMD or something else. Thanks for looking!
Hard to tell from the image, but it may be wrapping machine damage. It looks like the L is pushed inward and is parallel to the rim? What year is this may I ask? There are a few DDO's on the L on LIBERTY. But the show above or below the L. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1963d_bar_L_03.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1963d_rpm_bar_L_1.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1964P_1DO_coop_01.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1963P_1TO_coop_01PRb.jpg
Its a 1968-S. So then you guys are saying its PMD? A coin wrapping machine can push a letter too make two of them, would this be done while its still at the mint or just any old coin wrapper? Im not one of those guys thats saying "no way its a DDO and I wont listen to anyone" But I am curious as too how this is accomplished. Is there a link or someone has on hand that explains how this happens in detail, while I go have a smoke. If not Ill google it to see what I can find when I get back. Thanks for looking guys
It can't be a DDO. If it was the other devices around it would also be affected. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1972_ddo_08_col.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1972d1do001_coppercoins_com.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1972P-1DO-002_LIB___IN_GOD.jpg It would be impossible to be a doubled die with just one device moved like your coin. The others would also have to be moved as well in that area.
Ok, I understand that, I was just wondering how a coin wrapping machine could do this and what other coin damage a wrapper can do.
Have you ever opened a OBW roll of coins? You can usually toss the outside ones because of the damage the crimper does to these coins. Here is a classic one messed up this way. It might have been a minor RPM, but the damage removed any value it might of had.
