Wt 3.0+grams. One reverse rotated say 45deg in relation to other reverse. Looks like the coin reverse is in range of 68-mid 70s based on similar coins reverses. Have not taken time to look for specific die markers to try to box in date.

Magician coin. I have a 2006 double head nickel magician's coin, also rotated 45 degrees on one side such as your penny.

A "mule" are coin designs not normally seen on the same piece, IE; Sacajawea dollar/statehood quarter. What you have is a fully struck "two tail" coin, which by Mint standards, cannot occur.

I would think this was somehow reproduced and not an original mint product.

Look for a seam just inside the rim on one side or a seam along the edge. The seam will show how two reverses were fitted together.

If it is a magicians coin made from two separate cents, it's the first one I've ever seen as such. Also, at least one would probably need to be a pre-1982 composition in order to be able to machine the two parts that fit together. A plated cent over a zinc core would be extremely difficult to machine must least fit snugly.

At 3.0+ grams it is very likely to be from 95% copper coins.

two tailed turns into magician coin.

Thanks for all the inputs. Turns out one side was milled out and an "inlay" was seated very neatly into one side. Until viewed under scope could not detect the precision "work". Coin weight was right on money for 95% copper. Also now better understand "mule" designation. So I'd say worth about 2 cents - copper melt value.

Barber quarters or something like that were discovered like your penny and they were real and sold at auction. I read about this in Strike It Rich With Pocket Change.

    Just as I suspected.

Nah, it's still a neat coin, it's worth a couple bucks to the right person as a novelty coin.

I agree. I've never seen a magicians coin made from a cent before. They're usually made from quarters, halves and dollars. I think it's a cool piece to have.

I did read about a quarter that had two tails and was authenticated. Said that one was struck, then somehow was flipped over and a blank planchet was on top of it, so one of the tails sides is very nice, and the other is a bit smooshed from the second planchet on top.
