Someone sent me an email asking about a coin they found. There isn't too much to go on and he doesn't have any images of it, but I thought I'd if anyone else has a flash of insight.

Here's what he gave me: "One side has a crown much like the one you see on checker piece, the other side has a smaller version of the same crown with the letters V B in the top of the crown. Then below the smaller crown there is a crest with the lion on the upper right and lower left side and two other symbols I have not been able to figure out yet. The coin has no country written on it nor any value."

Anyone ever seen such a thing??
    Thanks

Sounds British - see if you can get him to relate any of the legends on the coin. Meanwhile - I'll check the books.

Might also be Scandanavian - in fact the crown on Danish, Swedish and Norwegian coins looks more like that on a typical checker than most UK crowns, and unlike the Brits, the Scandanavians don't always put the ruler's face on coins. Of course without a date, denomination or country name, it's most likely a token or medal of some kind rather than a coin.

Checking back with the guy for more info. Asked him for size, color, and any text whatsoever on the coin.
