As a good number of you are aware, I'm a Presbyterian minister. This Saturday (Christmas Eve), I'll be using one of my coins in the "Time with the Children." I'm going to use one of my Judean prutahs (prutin?, prutahin?) from Herod "the Great" to make a physical connection back to the time of Jesus. Here's hoping it works.

    Krasnaya Vityaz Always Right

I always have wondered whether I would get struck down by lightning if I put a "widows mite" in the collection plate at church.

I only have one of these, an Alexander Janneus lepton from ca. 100 BC, but I got it out of a 25¢ foreign coin box

What do you think? That's the point of the story isn't it? Giving up your most prized possession. :) In this case, the devil will pursuade you to keep it.

Sounds like a good idea KJM in trying to make the story of Jesus more concrete for the young. The coin may not be a holy relic but it is something the young could see and touch and hopefully be able to comprehend.
