Quick question about the NGC's grading:

When one enters the information on the online submission form, under VARIETY, I usually list either a DDO or a DDR. The graders (or whomever does the labeling) puts down the DDO/DDR and then assigns it to one of their labeling codes; FS-101, FS-102, FS-501, etc. according to their VarietyPlus Catalog.

However, I have a few that are not listed on their VarietyPlus Catalog and was wondering if the NGC will still provide their labeling code for the coin in question or just leave it at DDO or DDR. If they do provide a labeling code, will it be a new entry in their VarietyPlus Catalog?

    Thank you for your help!

I tried that and emailing them.

No one seems to answer. The one that did said she had to check. The wait was a little too long and I ended up hanging up.

Just thought that someone here has some experience with this.

From what I read on their web page, it has to be one that is on their list. PCGS also has a list of varieties they will indicate on the label. For instance, neither will label a 1970 - S/S RPM2. They will a RPM1, but not RPM2 , so they have to go to ANACS. I don't believe they will add a code unless they see a large demand for it. IMO.

    That's what I figured.

    Thanks for the info!

I guess "pleasant sounding human" doesn't always mean knowledgeable!

    lol I guess not. :D

As for the submission question I agree. I think they have to be a listed one. As not all will get on the labels until they call it a agreed upon variety.

Rule of thumb - PCGS will only list varieties that are in the Red Book. NGC does a few more, but not many.
