This is a nice coin variety to study if a person is interested in doubled dies, wavy steps, or die trails of coins. Seemingly originating in 1985 or 86 on an experimental basis, the single squeeze method of die production continues forward today and future. Notice that the doubling on the thumb is located close to the enter of the coin. Single squeeze production was suppose to eliminate doubled dies by eliminating the multiple hubbings which caused the classic DDs, but it also introduced new elements such as wavy steps and trails. Most doubled dies since the mid 90s will be of this nature. They won't be high price items ( except on eBay and CW,NN big advertisers) IMO. Some feel that Die Trails will increase in collecting significance. Jim
I have found some strange things in my change here. 2 excellent trapped gas, a 1939 double monticello, 1953-D rpm's 001 & 002, 2 cracked dimes, a godless GW from my bank & 2 strange 1969-S ddo's-1 may be a type 3, dont know of the other. will try to post pics soon!
They are some nice coins to study.Im lucky I found that error on my first try!Im always looking for new varieties.Last night I think I came across a cent with die trails,I set it aside to look at later..I like all errors pretty much..
I went to the bank for a new box of cents and got it home and Voila! Another full box of 2010 Ps A total disappointment since I have nothing to search. I'm not sure if I want to put it with the other two boxes I have and hoard them or take it to another bank and cash it in for more rolls. Think 2010's are worth keeping in bank rolls a few years? just to see how the coin market goes?
It's great to see the enthusiasm from new collectors especially in the error category. Some nice discoveries have been made over the last year or so. One thing to keep in mind is that this forum has some of the most respected authorities on the subject of errors. I realize after posting a number of "errors" that you find interesting, only to get a response like "Pmd" or "Md" or "not a error", is disheartening. But, understand that the "experts" in some cases are the "go to" guys in the business and if they say it is not an error, you can take that to the bank (so to speak). Keep posting your finds but don't get down if it takes a while to find something rare. The reason the prices are so high for some errors is because they are extremely scarce and not easy to find. After you've seen a few thousand examples of Machine Doubling, you'll understand why there's no value to them.
You can search these too you know. You could be the first to discover a new doubled die. You can check them for rotated dies, cuds, offcenter strikes, clashes, etc. As far as saving them, being a new design I'm sure lots of them will be saved in rolls and with high mintages I don't think the future value will be there in my opinion.
1928 " Large S" Mint Mark Here's a 1928 Large S MM I found in eBay rolls. It's supposed to be scarce due to the size and design of the MM. ( just incase you come across one ).
I still have a problem with MD, but it;s mostly because my eyes are getting bad. What is really hard is the double coupled with MD. It's tough when there is no one to look at the coin and confirm your findings, and pics are always tough. I too am going back through the flips and taking another look. Some folders I have accumulated have large date 1970's in the small date holes and there may be some errors with other coins in folders. Generally, slow it down during football season though. I like the handicapping contests sponsored by some of the gaming groups here in Vegas. My wife came home from the store and had a Football Digest in one hand and a Cruise Line Pamphlet in the other. lol Guess I will start putting the coins away for while ? gary
I was searching some cents and I believe I came across a 1988-D lincoln with the abraded mint mark.I checked vista variety and there wasnt anything on it.Im trying now to get a pic of it but It seem very hard to do.
She's sending you a subliminal Ultimatum...LOL You bury yourself in Football this year.. she is taking a cruise. Here's a 1992 D with MD Obverse and Reverse.
