Looks like the ATB's are off to a slow start - I see collector/public interest increasing as more are found in circulation.

My interest has been steadily rising since it's low in the Fall of '09. I recently got the Smokey Bear edition coin album, which I really like! (Warning: The holes are too big for the coins!)

I have yet to see one in hand, but I must admit that I did miss out on the state quarters, so yes, I'll collect them. Maybe they'll gradually grow on me. I'll start next year...nice to let the hype, if any, die down first.

Personally, I have found the U.S. Mint practically obliterates any possibility of a completed collection, bringing any collector a premium at all. The Mint contracts with all these so-called mints ie, The New york Mint, The philadelphia Exchange, and the Bradford Mints. I can't tell you how much garbage mail I get from these places. Recently hawking these new Quarters. Not to mention the TV hawkers. For me, this mint practice and marketing scheme makes me ill, every time I get that Junk Mail. The best happening for me, the other day I saw a penny on the ground at a mobil station near my house. I picked it up, low and behold it was a very nice S mint Wheatie ! Cool ha?

Is this speculation? I don't think the Mint has anything to do these other businesses but I (too?) am only guessing. Especially the ones that plate the coins...

There didn't seem to be a whole lot of interest in the State Quarters until the end of the series, then everyone was scrambling to get them all. I think the ATB quarters will be the same and there will be no interest until there's many of them in circulation.

If price is an indicator of interest, I did notice that it was half way through the series that the 1999 Silver Set peaked (at around $500) and then steadily declined until now (as people try to unload their second sets?)

I haven't seen an inordinate amount of junk mail due to my association with the mint, and I've seen no junk mail at all from the businesses you've mentioned.....

I can't say for certain, but I think it is linked to becoming an ANA Member.

I agree, the reading material that come from those sources are far more informational and targeted at known collectors from the personal database, rather than the material that comes from those business that buy database information for the purpose of hawking their goods.

Do you have any evidence to support that statement? I have been an ANA member for over 24 years and I don't get junk mail from the named businesses.

Mint Goes Small for this series.

The mint sure has some small hopes, judging from a new addition: A three coin set of one P one D and one Proof. Thirteen bucks seems high, but then again, the Signature Presidential Dollars at $16.00 were a bargain. Many pf 70 examples of that sell for thousands of dollars. Certainly, with the packagers looking at EACH proof as it goes in a set (I am assuming this will be by hand), maybe the dollar will exceed the four coin set issues, then grading is less dicey. There have been some Yosemite errors that languished on EBAY, which is incredible for the third of a series issue, and later those will be choice sellers. Once the year has passed and the high grade first releases vanish from EBAY, then collectors will notice. Hey, these are going to be the MOST BEAUTIFUL quarters ever, after all, and also in an ingot! This series also follows a previous series, and that series will get more activity because of this one. You cannot ignore the fact that in order to simply collect quarters, you gotta be in fully for the Parks quarters. Or have a binder of holes later. If you have not committed, buy the silver proof set, then you can decide easily. Actually, I like being able to buy early error boxes on the cheap. Makes things much less tedious. It's a good thing little interest is out there right now, for me.

  18. Just got my first one (Hot Springs) in change today at Subway! If the distribution was better, they might catch on. TC
