Bubble Mercury

    Ltrain & Abe. I am sorry for not giving this coin a better examination. You are obsolutly correct in stating that it appears to be a filled hole. I guess my eyes are catching up to my age.

    Ltrain, does that stand for Lionel Trains ? I have a bunch.

    It happens. don't sweat it. Never saw a filled Merc before, haha. I've seen holed, but filling a common date merc? Eh...

    LTrain, The poor guy probably used more silver plugging the hole than the dime is worth.

    OK, my comments about it being the result of heat and an expanding internal gas bubble was based on his statement that the obv showed "No idications of a punch mark." Now that the obv has been pictured I can say I was wrong. The "bubble" on the back is simply the result of a dent caused by the obv having been punched.

    It has not been holed and filled.

    Hmm, looking at the pics again, I think you're right. Wonder how much force you'd need to do that?

    as a Dime collector I seen a few Mercury in 50+ year of collecting that one of the 1st thing I look for on Mercury Dime a lot were made in to pendants

    That coin was not holed and then filled. You can clearly see the dent to the left of the R. The bubble is just the displaced metal.
    And of course I was joking about drilling a hole to let the air out.... :)
