I have tried to capture the doubling & tripling as well as the separation of the serifs where present. From the over all features, it looks like a large over large date. I noticed that MD is present on most numbers & letters, but where there is tripling the 2nf level is rounded and not flat shelf like doubling. Be sure to check out the serif over-lapping as well as the splits at the ends of the numbers. If you agree that it is in fact a DDO, do you think I should submit it for attribution as a new variety ?
Sure. Send it in. I personally cannot see any doubling or tripling but perhaps the attributer you choose will see it. Be sure to post the results.
****Not to change Subject**** I know that Wexler just add a Proof DDR for 1963 LMC.I sent this one to him last week
I see what you are saying with the date and the WE in IN GOD WE TRUST, but I don't see anything else. Send to an error enthusiast. I'd send it to PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or Fred Weinberg.
To me the B in liberty looks off, not sure if thats a shadow, also his eye looks interesting but I believe its a reflection.
Attempted to point out what I see OK, I have added arrows to what I am seeing as splitting or doubling that I have not seen on the other 1963-D cents from my solid date rolls that I am searching. Maybe some of the experts can tell me if these common die designs or if they appear to be actual doubling. Thanks for ALL responses so far !
I am currently searching a "budgood bag", and found some 63 cents, so I scoped them with my Chinese 45x lighted microscope, and saw striated numbers, indicative of a doubled die, so after reading this post, I'll hang on to them till the verdict is in.
looks like there's always a reflection where alot of the arrows are...makes this really hard to tell whats going on
Jon4485 - just out of curiosity, are you clicking on each image 3 or 4 times so that is displayed at their full resolutions ?
Don't worry about it. I was fortunate enough to receive the opinion of an attribution specialist and they were unable to see any indication that this was a double die in my photographs. I guess the hunt continues.
:axemeethead: About 3-4 week or next week it just depend how many are there before mine. I was in a hurry yesterday and did not read everything
So are you saying that they were able to attribute it from your pictures? That would not be enough for me.
Well as an error searcher/ newbie.. I`d say its a nice find. It looks like there is doubling there.I hope it all pans out!!!
