I have a question and that is if there something good about pre1960 nickels? Everyone makes a point if they found one but I am clueless about the importance of these? Someone please fill me in.. Thanks!

    1. they are old, and 2. the nickel content in nickels makes them worth more than $.05. I think thats it?

Simple answer, the five cent piece is about the only pre-1960 coin you can still get in circulation. About the only other is the 1959 cent. Wheat cents and silver are possible but unlikely. But the five cents can still be found all the back into the 1940's and from time to time even the 30's. People like it because they can still find old coins in change.

The composition of the pre-1960 nickel is exactly the same as the modern nickel. (The obvious exception is War Nickels which contain silver.)

Did my wife put you up to asking that question? She wonders why I go gaga over nickels that are still in circulation. I just like nickels older the better. I agree with Conder101, this is a coin that you can find ones older than yourself probably even older than your parents still in your pocket change.
