I found these quarters in a big bag of my friend's change and was wondering what they were worth, but more what happened to them. I'll most likely be keeping them for my collection. The first one has a weird, streaky type texture, with a line under Washington's chin. Next to a regular quarter for reference The 2nd looks like some kind of die breakage, but it may be post mint damage. Any ideas on what these could be?
It almost appears as though your coin was put into some kind of harsh chemical that started eating it up. Speaking from my work experience, we use a chemical to clean steel parts called HDL 202.. Put aluminum in there and the chemical will start to dissolve it, much like whats happening to your quarter
So the first one is not some kind of die greasing or error? In the second one the actual rims aren't bent in, it just looks like there was a part of the planchet that didn't get stuck or something. Thanks for your answers, guys.
ooohhh put any trust in my post, haha. i was merely taking a guess at what may have happened. Im curious what the real coin guru's have to say!
the first one was definitely acid dipped. for the 2nd one- I'm not sure. the obverse tells me clip but the reverse tells me CUD
They are both post-mint damage. The last one almost looks like a clip, but it has dings all around the rim, and it's not defined, sort of sloped.
