Figured I better chime in on my Boston experience. It started out with a short trip to Orient Point where I caught a ferry to New London Connecticut. The prospect of driving through the Bronx and hooking up with major truck traffic depressed the bejesus out of me. Why not take the shorter and more scenic route? So off I (actually we, my wife and #3 daughter) went. We caught the 11:00 ferry. Here's a picture of two hearty sailors.....:)

The ferry ride is really nice... relaxing and you see things you wouldn't ordinarily see if you were driving on land....like light houses. I love light houses. Here's a shot of the Orient Light.....

Farther along on our voyage, just out of New London, we encountered this beauty.

You can read more about her here....http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=800

Coming into New London we spied the Coast Guard training vessel "Eagle"

Such a thrill to see that beauty. Ya know what? That vessel is the only operational sail vessel in the US maritime services. Read more about her here....http://www.uscg.mil/datasheet/wixtrain.asp

Upon landing in New London, it's just a short 2 hour drive to Boston. Beats the heck out of going around the horn like Frank (Treashunt) did....LOL

We arrived in Boston around 3PM and promptly settled into our hotel room. By 4PM I was chomping at the bit to get to the show. The Marriott is just a shot walk from the convention center so off I went. Having Treashunts cell phone # (don't worry Frank, I didn't post it on any bathroom stalls :)) I quickly dialed him up and sure enough he was there. We hooked up after I registered and he promptly initiated me into the fine art of acquiring show "freebie's". Frank's a master at this and soon I was bogged down with all manner of reading material. It's really quite amazing what you can get for gratis at a show this size. :) I've got enough reading material to last me for the next year. :)

Met Charmy (Penney Lady) Ziggy9 and 900fine along with his lovely wife Robin (oldschool?). Twas indeed a pleasure to meet all these folks.

Since this is a coin forum I'd better post a few coins. Here's some of my pickups.....

Well, seem to be having a devil of a time posting the coin pictures. I can add light houses and barques "inline" but the system seems to balk at multipul photos of coins. I'll leave that to another thread. All in all a great time was had by all and I'd do it again in a heart beat given the chance.....:)

Great account Ken. I love that you included your journey to the show. Nice Vermont Commem too! Scored another one for a growing collection. Looks like it might be in a slab, what's the grade on this one? Can't wait to see any other coins you might have gotten and want to share. :thumb:

Chris, another thread in the making....

And yes it is indeed slabbed by NGC...'62. I thought she could be better....buy the coin, not the slab. :)

LOL! But do you really want to send the ladies off to the mall Ken? They might do more damage to your wallet than you would at the coin show.

Shrek, I've great honor and respect for the Coast Guard. Angela's Dad was Coast Guard and drove landing craft at Guadalcanal where he was wounded.....

Green, it was great meeting you and getting to talk a little with you too! I'm glad you enjoyed the show, and your ferry trip looks very similar to the one we took to Salem! We saw several lighthouses too - what a fun way to around on the the east coast. And kudios to your family for not turning and running the other way when you just mentioned the phrase "coin show"!!! I look forward to seeing your newps....
