Has anyone ever noticed a GOLDEN ring around some of your Morgans which have been in NGC holders after a while? I particulary like it Bone
I'm assuming you say that because the toning wasn't there when you bought the coin. But I don't know that it is the result of the NGC holder - possible I suppose. I think it more likely though that it is the result of album toning returning after the coin has been dipped and then slabbed.
I can't recall where I heard it but apparently it's shown up before on NGC graded and slabbed Morgans. As far as this coin, I bought it white and already slabbed. A pleasent surprise to say the least. It was on of my first purchases after getting back into the hobby. Bone
There-in lies the other question in the big picture. What enviromental (natural) factors induce NTing, what factors accelerate it, and if natural factors are manipulated does that cross over to ATing. If one totally understands the NTing process, the unscrupulous might manipulate the environment and thus speed evolution along...
Ahh, but if the process is identical to Natural, albeit slightly accelerated, would it still be considered "artificial" ?
i smell a family coin altering operation.... i can see bones in his lab gassing slabs as i read this thread...meanwhile, when he doesn't have his daughter out searching for those missing overtons, she's listing ''ultra rare, morgans with wild toning'' on the bay before newly ''painted'' morgans even have time to dry...but it's kosher as long as their in plastic...
I found this site about ATing very interesting. http://www.coinsite.com/content/origcoindoc/p0000080.htm
