Hey folks. This is my first real post here at CT beyond my introductions so I wanted to have something substantive! I won a 300 LWC lot on eBay for less than 2c a coin so I wasn't expecting much. However, so far I've positively identified: 1901 IHC G4 1927-D/D RPM-001 F12 1952 Die chip at LIBERTY 1953 Die chip at Mint mark EF40 1956-D/D 1MM-022 CONECA-unlisted AU55 1957-D/D RPM-005 AU-55 (2) 1957 Die chip at date (2) 1957-D Die chip at date 1957-D Die Chip at LIBERTY 1958 filled 8 - die chip (20) LWC from teens and 20s (37) LWC from 30s about 15 Red BU and 40 AU specimens - mostly from 50s not bad so far I thought, right? But my real questions are the ones I can't really tell on. I've included pictures/descriptions below and what I think they might be. Also - let me know iof any of these are worth more than 50 cents or so as I'd like to put them in individual 2x2s... 1941 - some kind of doubling on LIBERTY 1952 - some kind of doubling (maybe different kind or stronger on 'W') 1956 - Large Die chips reverse 1935-D What happened here, date is almost missing - worth keeping? 1952 - Some odd metal behind the date - doesn't look at all like die chip to me (more photos next post)
(continued) 1956 - some kind of doubling Both of these 1952-D's look like they have an extra serif or hook protruding, especially the second one. 1958-D strong weird doubling 1953 Halo-looking die chip? 1938 - missing/moved/die chip 1 in date (compared with regular date) Sorry I know many of these could use more magnification but this was the best I had. I also know many of these could be mechanical doubling or other worthless stuff but I wanted to check with the experts. I've been using the Cherrypicker's Guide and the awesome and much more comprehensive database at Copper Coins: http://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php Let me know what you all think!
too many to reply. #1: Nothing. #2: Die wear doubling. #3 1956 die chips.. you got it correct. #4: 1935, slightly greased die or a weak strike, no value. #5: 1952: looks most likely post mint damage, no other explination. #6: 1956 nothing #7: possible (slightly) repunched MM. #8: no date listed, slight possible DDO, minor #9: die crack on head. #10: I see nothing. phew.
Thanks for the feedback, Treashunt! I was worried I wouldn't get any takers! Sorry about the volume of questions/photos, perhaps it's against etiquette. Is there any easy way to insert pictures that are resized as thumbnails? a couple questions for others: #2 - 1952: I was assuming it might just be die wear but what about the extra stem of what looks like another 'W' in between the lines of the primary 'W'? #5 - 1952: How could it be post mint damage? It's raised metal and it's behind the date. Is that still possible? #7 - (2) 1952-D's: This is actually two different coins. You think possible RPM on both? ...and perhaps the curved upward looking line on the second is just a chip or is it feasible that it's the remnants of an 'S' mint mark. #8 - is a 1958-D... or did you mean there's no known varieties for that date with that sort of effect? #10 - 1938: This is two pictures of two coins as well. The first is the one in question and the second is a normal one for comparison. Still don't see anything? Maybe it's another greased die? Thanks all for any feedback!
Looking at the 1938, if you look just beneath the bowtie you can see remnants of the one. There is kind of a trail where the one was pushed over and up leaving the xtra metal in a small mound...
interesting, abe. And thanks! Are any of these worth anything? or, more importantly, worth* collecting? * I know, I know. But let me clarify: "worth collecting" for me would mean that I'm not going to find one in every LWC roll I go through. I know the RPMs are worth holding on to, just seeing if anything else would be an exciting challenge to look for when I buy rolls or lots...
