I am having a lot of problems viewing the pages now. I don't know of it is my computer or a browser setting, but sometimes the page is twice as wide as my screen, and sometimes the answers can't be read because the window is not even a full line tall.

I have a new Toshiba laptop with a HD monitor.

Is it the changes in the site, or me ? And can anyone help me learn how to fix it ?

    Thanks,
    Gary

I have been having a bit of trouble as well, followed the directions to change settings in this thread http://www.cointalk.com/t123828/ made it better, but some threads with pics still hard to read.

You guys aren't alone. I've had the same problem for the last few weeks.

I've had the same problem as well. I need to scroll side to side to read some of the threads. It's almost as if the view function is set for a wider screen shot. It only happens on certain threads though. I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing it or how to get rid of it.

It appears to occur only on threads with photos.

An ongoing problem with the new site format.
Since we know it exists and many people have mentioned it I assume(?) someone will fix it when they have the time.

Thanks. I really enjoy this site. But unfortunately cannot participate when the responses cannot be read. The width is an inconvenience dealt with by scrolling. The very low column height makes it impossibe, so I just do something else.

Should I wait to return for a couple of weeks or so ?

I just checked. My IE display is no longer running off the page.

Beyond that, firefox appears to be much better than IE.

As for your post height problem, I remember no one else having such a problem. If changing the settings above don't help, I have no clue.

    A Common Viewing Problem

I believe you are probably in the majority, as I've made numerous attempts to correct the viewing problem. I eventually realized that because of the combination of seemingly incompatible font/background colors and font size, I found it virtually impossible to read the majority of information posted. I knew that if I were to read/interact with the new software, I would need to compromise.

I, by necessity, type in the dark using the Qwerty system, and because of the aforementioned characteristics, could not see an error if my arthritic large fingers stuck the wrong key. I needed to find a font which spread/darkened the typed characters, thus my selection of Arial Black font. I also found that if the display characteristics were changed to a lesser number of pixels displayed, and Large Font, reading posts is acceptable. However, I can't view any post with images, because of the need to constantly scroll left/right/up/down to view portions of the image.

I also would love to view an entire image without "scrolling", as I remember it to be in the past. I found the past " full view" capability to be an awesome means for constructive explanation, and was "awed" at some of the posts which taught this "old man" many things that couldn't be viewed normally. This educational feature alone generated my desire to return, and "sponsor". I realize that because of other program defaults in the program "upgrade", this may not be a possibility, but just an item to top a "wish list".

I suspect that the irritating idiosyncrasies of the software update are inherent by design. and can't be corrected without code change. I believe that we can individually temporarily compensate to meet our requirements. It appears that the past acceptable program characteristics utilized by the average viewer, is probably "history".

I believe that this forum is enlightening/informative, and hope that we individually can find methods to compensate, and accept seeming deficiencies, which hopefully will be corrected in the future. I personally have found some new program features to be more desirable than past, but generally prefer the past design, and trust that others will join me in having some patience, while hopefully stated "deficiencies" are improved/corrected. :)

I was having trouble with my netbook running XP. I tried making some of the changes suggested here but with no success. However I just ran the update for Internet Explorer 8 and wouldn't you know that fixed it.

Everytime they have an update they want you to run, it seems as though all these weird bugs start showing up in their older products. But that could just be me being suspicious of microsoft. Nog that anyone would have any reason whatsoever of being distrustful of microsoft.

Well guys, I have it today ? None of the suggestions worked. I tried them all and a few I made up myself. I froze attempting to download Mozilla. The Win 7 or my f-secure just wouldn't let it happen.

I finally closed all my files and did a system restore to when everything seemed to work. Hate to do that, but football is really underway yet, so I took the risk.

As said, it seems OK. Might lose it with the next read ?

All the info was appreciated, and acted on.

    Thanks so much.

    I MAY have fixed it.

the type face is still large, but the pictures seem to work.

go to Tools at the top of the page.

    click on 'compatibility view'

the screen scrolls a bit, and then all now fit.

    tested w/ Charmy's pictures.

It was fine after I did a system recovery, for awhile. Then it messed up. I came back just now because of a notification and it's OK. Go figure ? If I could determine the cause, I might get lucky with a fix, but so far it's eluded me quite well.

I think it's a bug with IE. Whatever it is, it's VERY annoying having to scroll left and right!

I don't think it is a bug in IE. IE was working fine prior to the forum update. I think it is a bug in the update protocol. I wish someone would give us some answers.

I Still Believe It Is The Coin Talk Program Because:

I personally don't use IE, nor Outlook Express because of numerous destructive tendencies which I suspect are part of the protective code. I believe you'll find that Microsoft was fined quite heavily in Europe, and court mandated to supply a disconnect "switch" for IE in EU sold software. It has incapacitated several of my computer OS, causing considerable loss of data after trying to recover. I personally use Firefox (older version) with 98SE, 2000, or XP Pro, and can't recall having problems until the "update".

Oddly enough I'm reasonably certain it is something in the CT code and only that that is causing the problem. I say this because I can view the very same thread in two different windows at the same time and in one the page is normal and fits on the screen. Yet in the other window that same thread can only be viewed by scrolling.

Now if it had anything to do with IE (which is what I use) that would not be possible.
