I believe I have posted before about the 36 jar gem case I bought for housing coins too small to fend for themselves in regular trays? I decided I liked it but the coins I selected (under 1g Greek silvers) almost filled up the case and I was concerned that I might have trouble matching it if I did not buy another so I went to the antique/junk store that sold them and bought the only other one in stock ($15). I decided I could expand the definition of 'tiny' to include diobols so I'd have 70 coins in two boxes (I still have 14 empties because there are 2-3 in some jars when they are minor variations or duplicates). My wife wanted to go along and stop at Costco to get a couple more photos from her trip to fill out her brag book (13cents x 20=$2.60) and get lunch (hot dogs and soda:$3.15). My daughter and grandson wanted to come along for lunch (split pizza and frozen yogurt) $3.75) and to see what Costco had in the way of a food processor/blender (no decision made yet but $40-80 looks likely). At the antique shop, my grandson saw a bin of used golf balls and he picked a yellow one - he was being good so... (40 cents); the daughter saw a secretary desk on special sale that she liked and... ($219). Since the desk would not fit our car, we dropped Grandma and Grandson off, got the pickup and went back to get it. Our Grandson was being especially cooperative with Grandma so we got him a surprise package of 24 Silly Bands which he had admired when their earlier but was told he did not need them. Not whining the first time and helping Grandma fold laundry without a fuss... ($2). After loading the desk, the truck would not start so we called for a tow first to the daughter's house to drop off the desk and then to the repair place (interrupted double tow with help unloading furniture $80). The repair place said that the fuel pump was shot ($600). That was one expensive coin accessory! If I had known then what I know now, I could have popped all the coins in my mouth for more authentic storage and saved a bunch!
The next time you decide to go on a family outing, go to a public park and take a box lunch. The next time you decide to buy coin accessories, tell the family you're going to take the car in for a tune-up. Chris
I have a very similar issue, most of my coin purchases I do at antique shops and most of my purchases are well under $20... Long story short, I also picked out jewelry for my wife... usually I end up spending many more multiples of money on her than I spent on myself while coin hunting , Needless to say, she is more than happy to let me go hunting in peace!
