    Down to Brass Tacks

First Old Dan claims: "... the amount of information that isn't already on the web, isn't worth knowing in the first place. I really don't care which building burned down in 1816, or why it burned. I collect coins, not sit around and read about it! ..."

But then, Old Dan says: "Very sound research and reasoning Dave. My compliments on a job well done!"

So, Old Dan does care which building burned down.

Also, if you read the post, SuperDave did no reasoning. It was a good post. It was right from the books -- via the Web. It was right on. However, it was only a summary from another report. It entailed no reasoning.

Old Dan was just being Grumpy Old Dan. It is so charming when he does his Walter Mathau imitation.

They weren't great ones 1845, 1846, 1853, etc., but a Seated Dollar could be had for a C-Note in 1981. Fortunately the remainder of my collection was still at the folks house...

    Gotta say I agree.

I am all for education, books, etc. but to suggest that a "real" coin collector has to have this or that reference guide is a little out of line. Recommending them is one thing, but impugning someone's level of seriousness based on their library is another. The things I collect right now have no reference books, unless I write one someday. I don't condsider myself any less serious than anyone else.

Believe me Mikey, when I say I don't care which building burned down or for your interpretation of what I said, I really don't care.

You must have gotten up on the wrong side of your cage this morning.

If you need to tell yourself that in order to face another day, then so be it. If it were me, I'd still be devestated.

I have an 1846 that I have not seen in years, and I am going to dig it out soon just to make sure it is OK. I do miss that old girl. I love the Seateds and wish I had actively collected them when they were cheaper. They were a REAL Silver Dollar, not like those puny Morgans.

What else can I say, they were in G-F-VF condition? Oh sure I was ****ed, but I was the one who gave her the keys (STUPID)... Just not worth stewing over. I'd not even have what I've got now if I'd have taken that path... Last time I heard news (20 year College Class Reunion) from her she was on her 4th husband having ruined the other three. Lucky Fellow Here ;)
