Boo-hoo! Well, it has kicked off and it sounds like a roaring par-tay already. For those of us unable to attend the Boston ANA World's Fair of Money that began today, running August 10th-14th, let us not forget to celebrate and share the newest additions of coins, notes and related numismatic items to our personal collections we get in this week! If you've won an auction, received something new during the above time frame, picked up something at your dealers shop, found a cool circulation item, taken new photos of your collection or roll/strap searched something fun, plunked down some cash in bullion investment, then feel free to celebrate the 'everyday achievements' by posting your goodies here between now, August 10th, and the end of the Fair, Saturday August 14th! You just know that those lucky enough to be there are going to be showing off and reporting their newest pick-ups soon enough, so why not delight in all of our new additions! I'll kick it off with my newest addition which just came in today: The Early Paper Money of America: Colonial Currency 1696-1810, Fifth Edition by Eric Newman (Krause Publications) Show us what ya' got CoinTalk! :thumb:
Totally missed this thread Chris and I'm surprised no one has responded with a new pick-em-up. Even though I will be goin' to Boston this weekend perhaps I could post this beauty I won early this morning? Just gotta share, and, I ain't in Boston yet.....
I just bought a 1925 SLQ, a '44 and '45 Washington, and I plan on going to a coin shop tomorrow. I'm also going to pick up a box of dimes perhaps, and finish it off with a couple yard sales and flea markets this weekend. AND I found a $20 2004 star note today.
Blue and Green! Both got some nice Jeffersons! Blue, looks like you got a nice toner. would like to see some pics that show that aspect off some more. Nice pickup!
To all those able to attend the ANA in Boston have a great time and happy hunting. Here's my latest acquisition. This completes my proof registry set. It's the elusive 1873 Open 3, a PCGS PR64BN. Waitied a loooong time for this one.
Thanks Krispy, oddly enough my first coin for that set was the Closed 3. Took a while to even find a Open 3.
Definitely killed it in the bargain bins at the coin shop today. I picked up A LOT of cheap foreign silver. For under $30 I got 1943 Aus 6 pence, and 1952 Aus Florin, 1903 Canadian dime, France 50 Centimes 1901, Netherlands 1914 10 cents, Switzerland 1921 1 Franc, a 1996 100 Yen from japan, and a 1868 Shield Cent. Also picked up 3 MPCs. A series 641 5 cents, and a series 521 5 and 10 cents. I think I did well. Got skunked on the box of dimes though, minus a bunch of 2010 Ps. Need to go back when the guy at the coin shop isn't going to be busy, I barely even scraped the top of the foreign bargain bin, there was a lot of silver for under $2.
I too have made a significant addition to a set spanning 50 years+ of collecting. I was just notified I won lot 3946 - 1909-S-VDB MS65RB PCGS & CAC. I've been looking at it for weeks and finally pulled the trigger. I have seven other bids pending - who knows? I'll post a picture when in hand.
I just received in the mail a small group, (4) of Cleopatra VII coins. They are small coppers but show her portrait. I have others as well, but these were cheap enough.
