purchased this coin very recently .. and the dealer put stickers on the back of the hologram.. didnt think much of it.. so i took it home when i removed the lablel sticker it removed a bit of the security hologram.. becareful.. of this when buying i feel it ruins the coins... please comment.. kaos
You feel it ruined the coin , because the plastic holders hologram added a century later has been damaged by a sticker. I'm going to start a company slabbing slabs , I'm sure you guys will line up.
It has no effect on the coin at all. This is very common and every collector has run into this situation. Many are annoyed by it, but you are the first to state that you think the damage to the hologram has ruined the coin. If it really bothers you that badly, send the coin to PCGS and have it reholdered.
I think it's silly to get worked up over something so minor....even chips and scratches should not affect your enjoyment of a coin....reholdering is pretty paintless in those situations.
Everyone, including the TPGs, knows that dealers use stickers, so your upset should be directed at the TPG's application of the hologram to the outer surface of the coin's tomb instead of the sealed-off inner surface, where it couldn't be altered or removed.
The newer slabs are much less succeptible to sticker damage. The TPG's are aware and have addressed the problem but there are a boatload of old slabs out there still.
this is a very interesting problem because most collectors would want a nice slab and not one that has scratches or pulled stickers so in a way, it would make some collectors not want to buy the coin. that being said, some collectors follow by that golden rule, "buy the coin and not the slab". so i would not worry about the coin or the holder being ruined and if you ever had to sell the coin, you would most likely get full price. nice coin, by the way!
It can also be a problem because one of the flaws of the chinese counterfeit PCGS slabs is that the hologram is much more easily damaged than on the real ones. This type of damage could cause a genuine PCGS slab to be questioned as to whether or not it is real. But this is minor. Try and find an older NGC slab say a no line fattie with a full width hologram that isn't damaged. Back then the stickers tended to rip the entire hologram off the slab.
