As a fairly new member, I hope I dont offend some when I say that some of these threads are boring as heck. The coolest feature is the ability to remove the constant thread updates to a subscribed thread.:foot-mouth:

For all I know, my topic might also be a mass turnoff.
When I first joined, someone quickly asked to post pics. That got me thinking about this topic.
Here I will share and hope we can trade ideas and insights on the best way for home collectors to keep their goods from leaving home without us.

My basics. First I do not share the $ figure of my collection/hoard. 1, I really dont know, 2 sounds like bragging. OK, estimate high 6 fig.
I have a couple layers of electronic warning. Cameras that transmit to off sight recorder, decent alarm service.
Now the fun, 2 very healthy Cane Corso mastiffs with proper signage.
2 safes. 1 is a very large gun safe but my baby is a 2' x 3' x 3' GARY that is approved for business insurance as tool rated 18. That means it takes that long to be cracked by power tools. [IMG]

There are also a couple layers of... personal protection.

With all of the above, I believe that my best security is stealth. Not many folks know much. My mail is sent and delivered to a USP store with a suite number so not even the mailman had a clue.
Before i close for others thoughts, I will preview a quick story for another time from a few years ago. An ebay sale led to my home being stalked!

Looks like I did not get the picture posted. Maybe this is how.

That's your opinion, it's subjective, one topic may be on your level as a collector but not another... there will always be another of each thread to come along.

How is your collection / investments, your home, your person, etc. any more secure by the very existence of this thread, the image of a type of safe and all the details you just gave any crook willing to challenge you??? I mean in your so called 'basics' you contradicted your first point by giving a rough estimated value! If you were so stealth you would never have raised the topic yourself and contributed so much about your personal set up, even if it was all a bluff.

"Not many folks may know much" but many know not to post what you just have and those who 'don't know much' now know this much more, about you! Loose lips sink ships.

Six figures, huh? This topic has been beat to death in other boring threads. I think most concluded a safe deposit box and tight lips are the best security. Letting it be known coins are in your home under lock & key only adds to your risk - now your life is in jeopardy, as the thief will probably attempt to rob you while you're home, forcing you to open the safe with a gun to your head.

My motto on here is "share the coins, not the location". I have shared some pretty cool coins on here but don't keep them in my home. I have a lot of coins home, hundreds actually, but they are mostly common wheats. =)

Yes, many threads are very boring. never specefically mentioned coin talk so to assume so...
I dont see anywhere that I have given up my location so I dont feel as jeopardized as others would place me and surely did not give enough info here to have this fantasy thief ready to pounce.
Glad to know that subject had been here before. I havent so subject here is new to me.
I laugh at those that own an expensive object and keep it out of possible enjoyments reach and certaintly dont lay awake worrying about theives.
Fright is a basic instinct that causes an otherwise happy rabbit to dart to his hole when approached by a fox.

Fear is an un-natural constant paranoia and insecurity that, if infected above rabbit, would cause it to die alone of starvation.

Now everyone know that banks are OK to keep small expensive items and not openly brag about items in home, does anyone have any positive home security tips to ad to discussion? For instance, my home insurance agent is asking me for a more creative way to present my contents.

Just last month, right here in Tampa, 2 police officers outfitted with Glocks, wearing chest armor were gunned down by a lone crackhead with a cheap revolver.

As I see there some very argumentative types here looking to spell check one at any turn, I am not revealing that aspect of my security to all of these Rambos that are about to overrun my compound get my combinations and kidnap my loved ones until I drain my bank box...

    Given the following information;

Your last name is probably Carr.
First name probably begins with the letter B, or perhaps G, as your photobucket account info shows.
Further, the tag in the corner, BB Carr, is quite interesting.
the number 48 or 58 is of some significance to you, perhaps the year you were born.
Your location, somewhere near McDill AFB places you in the general area of Tampa and St. Petersburg, FL.

Given this photo, which I presume to be of you, I'll guess you're filthy rich and a braggart, to boot.

    IMG_3367.jpg

You don't really think I couldn't further trace you down if I so felt like it? How many properties over the price of $500k were purchased under the last name Carr in the area of Tampa and St. Petersburg, FL?

I'm not trying to be a smart-arse but actually trying to help you understand that you are not as safe as you think you are, no matter your defenses. Why? because you really have divulged far too much in a couple of posts here that could be enough to set some crook on your path.

It doesn't help that you don't know enough not to post about the size of your holdings/collections, etc. and where you keep them, in your home and in a safe, which looks like this (as seen above)... But you go and give away your location, Near McDill AFB, (it's under your avatar there on the left side of the screen) McDill is a few miles from Tampa, Florida.

Next, you've used a member name, 'bcarr48' that may be close enough to your own name for someone to narrow you down in a regional search since you gave your proximity to a geographical location and the potential to locate your home... The member name you've chosen is paired with a number that may be your birth year. Now the crook can potentially narrow you to an age range... While only slightly different, in similar fashion your Photobucket account name is 'gcarr58', the same potential clues abounds... How did I find your Photobucket member name? You posted pics of your pooches... I can view the current 53 images in your public albums on Photobucket, and there I find some play drunk-acting dude lounging with the stash that he claims to have at home... Chances are this is you!

Okay, so now the hypothetical thief knows what the cute pooches look like and will be looking for them in the yards of homes they go looking for... and the thief probably knows what you yourself look like, like someone approximately 50-60 years old. So when the no good dirty thief is out cruising around checking address hits that he finds for 'b carr' or 'g carr' in the Tampa area, hoping to spot you and the dogs out watering the lawn and possibly assumes you must be plenty rich to have this sort of stash, so you might be one of those affluent people living near Tampa in St Pete's or some other phat joint they're gonna swing by that part of town first... Maybe a doctor, lawyer, small business owner with exotic tastes is what they'll find! Look at that coffee table and crocodile couch!!!

So if the bad guy gets lucky with a name/location search and finds the dogs out running around your yard or spots the dude in the white fedora, anywhere, he's got a mark.

    Be safe bcarr.

I'm hunting for his address as we speak. I'll PM it to him once I find it.

Actually, I gotta wrap up shop and get outta here. My search will resume tonight.

If anybody feels like poking around, I pulled up the Hillsborough County real estate records.

Not spending time tracking down this dude - google the name and see if he has ordered anything on the net - it'll give his address

He's clearly ordered from APMEX and if anyone can glean the numbers off his slabbed coins, and he has a registry set up on PCGS or NGC, there's likely more info linked than he's aware of.
