1917 S Filled Error One Cent

I found this filled S on this 1917-S recently acquired. So far I can find no information on filled S for 1917. I thought it was a clogged die until I re-examined the first 1917 S I collected when I was 12 and found in pocket change some 46 years ago and it too has a filled S.

So now I am really curious as to how common the filled S was for 1917. Check yours and let me know!

It is far from rare and I doubt anyone follows it for a specific date. It is a die chip and probably has no added value.

Yep, it's a small die chip and, while mildly interesting, would not carry any added premium.

For the record, a "clogged die" would cause some of the design (e.g., the mintmark) to be missing some detail. The mintmark on your coin has added metal (from the die chip) so it could not be a "clogged die".

    Thanks

Thanks rlm and hobo. I am still curious about the number of the 1917 S are die chips. I looked at ebay and with search there were none with die chips. I am wondering what are the odds I now have two.

Please chek your 1917 S and let me know if you have a S die chip.
