I put together a pretty big order from Wizard ($138) then went to checkout and the postage was over $50. Ummmm....nope. Went to ValleyCoin and the prices are quite a bit higher, but they promise shipping for around $5 no matter what you order. Among a lot of other things I wanted a flat clinch stapler and a Dansco Australia 3p and 6 p album, I couldn't find either at Valley. Even if I could find them, I'm not sure if the higher prices would compensate the lower shipping. I like to put in a single order for supplies once a year. I've ordered an awful lot from Valley in the past and have been pretty satisfied but...putting together price, postage, plus available products, who's got the stuff?
I like Brent-Krueger, partially because I live 20 minutes from their store, but I can't decide which is worse, taxes or shipping fees.
I've found the Amos Publishing catalog to be good on prices and their shipping is reasonable. Not sure if you have to be a Coin World subscriber to use them. The catalog is displayed at www.coinworld.com.
brooklyngallery.com is good. I have ordered several Dansco albums and they arrive w/in days after ordering. I think 2 albums were almost 9 dollars in shipping but I had it 3 days later so I am not complaining.
Transline!!! cheapest by far! www.translinesupply.com edit: sorry, forgot transline was wholesale only...
I really like this thread, thanks! I collect world coins and have many that I wish to protect better, but aren't worth slabbing in my opinion, I think I will try the AirTite Holders! Do they work well?
Air-Tite Holders are fantastic. The manufacturer has a discount currently running on their site, 30% of $30 or more -- for their 30th Anniversary.
Can the airtite's be opened later easily without the coin flying through the air? Just wondering. Cuz, I've got a few I'd like to protect better than a 2x2, would like to send for slabbing later, but can't afford right now.
Site says they won't sell retail. Only wholesale to dealers and the like. . . It does provide a link, however, to locate a dealer. - That's the Transline site.
Yes, easy open, easy re-close. Flying through the air all depends on the amount of force YOU are applying, to any coin retrieval from a holder. Only gentle pressure applied with a thin knife/razor blade is necessary to open an Air-Tite capsule.
On another thread I just learned how to order 4x8 padded mailers at no cost. Order a lot from U-Line Supplies, keep half or how ever many you need, then sell the rest on ebay. You most likely will cover your entire cost for the whole lot from selling the portion you don't need. Cool, huh?! I'm certainly going to give it a try.
Wizard usually adjusts your shipping after the order and will issue you an instant credit....but, unfortunately, not until after the order is processed.
I've been ordering from Wizard even though the shipping appears unreasonable. It's true, Thad, that you receive a credit on shipping after the order is processed. On a note as to why I use Wizard, I've compared same products with JP's and Krueger's (who have higher product prices with lower shipping rates). Consistently, Wizard always comes up cheaper -- and they usually give you a shipping credit.
I just got some supplies from www.coinsupplyexpress.com after seeing the shipping from wizard's and they had decent shipping and cheap prices. That's not a good practice for wizard to hit you with those high prices for shipping and give you a credit after you checkout. I'm sure they lose a lot of business due to that! They lost mine because as soon as I placed my order and added shipping the price almost doubled! Turned me around right there.
wizard is also slow ship. I ordered the same product with in hours. one from eBay and one from wizard. The eBay order arrived the morning of the day I got a notification from Wizard that my item had shipped.
