since i was getting tired of using someone elses camera this had to be one of my next purchases. its not a top of the line SLR but its probably around the best 150 can get you. its a kodak M580. i still have to make a better setup to take pictures with but heres some new ones for now. pics taken of my 1794 S-30, S-65, 1805, 1852, 1872 SLD, 1896 morgan and 1923 S peace. would like to know what other members think of my new pics - what i can do to improve them.
i dont know. this camera likes to do most things automatically. most of my settings include scene, zoom, light compensation, flash and timer. i was just using basic macro and letting it do the rest.
Go to your settings. The default might be causing the problem. Increase the "picture quality" to "best" or whatever equivalent adjustment. The default might be set to minimum or average and you may need to change it to a higher setting.
You seem to be capturing the luster very well, however something looks a little off. Love that large cent, and nice coloration on that peace dollar.
Pictures are too big. I think some tweaking of some of the settings maybe something to reduce the zoom. Not really sure what.
I don't want to rain on your parade but this review http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/products/kodak-m580 says this model has some limitations in macro. As the others have said, try different settings. Maybe not shoot so close but use highest detail setting and then when downloaded to computer try cropping out the extra field. Nice coins!
I don't think there's anything wrong with your camera but you might need to position your lighting better. For best results you need two lights -- you appear to have only one. Try the 10 and 2 o'clock positions first and adjust for best results.
i agree with the lighting. i don't use the cameras flash, so turn that off. and ahearns coordinates for light placement is good, so do that. you can also try taking the pictures outside, not in direct sunlight though. other then that, work on the sharpness and play with the white balance. i think the white balance may be off. tweak the settings and play around. really thats the best way to do it. i would take all the auto stuff off and set everything up manually. thats a bummer about the macro. i got my camera for around that price and it works great, plus it got a touch screen!! but yea, just play around with the settings, till you get it. practice really makes perfect when it comes to photographing coins. if you have photoshop, you can change the sharpness and all that. if you don't, you can try photoscape, its free and has all the features you need.
You're doing well for your first shots. Keep playing with the settings to find the ones that do what you want them to do. And DON'T forget the third side of the S-30 and S-65. I'm studying the edges and all information helps. Also, check the index for Photoscape which allows for circular cropping and is very user friendly for developing a presentation style.
Wow-> nice pics.. I got a morgan last month, i paid 3.00$ for it (1887). I kind of suckered the person into selling it to me by saying its only worth 3.00$ for what its worth in silver and it was sold!!
