Darn I thought I was going to be able to be able to satisfy your wish on the Sheldon color set. It was sold as lot 571 of the first Dan Holmes collection but they didn't post an image in the online catalog.

It's probably just me but I've never been that impressed by the color set. I've had a chance to see it on at least three different occasions and I just don't see that much variation between the coins. Probably one of the downsides of being colorblind. I keep wondering what the buyer of the set did with it. Has he kept it together or did he break it up. (Set sold for $33,000)

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

Didn't one of the books (one of the Sheldon editions?) have a pic of the set?

p.s. I agree with you, the variation of color wasn't nearly as broad as I would have guessed from the photos and descriptions.

No the only places I have ever seen the set pictured was in an edition of Penny-Wise, and in the Dan Holmes catalog. (I have all of the editions of Penny Whimsy except the second printing of the 1990 edition. I also have Early American Cents. The color set is not in any of them.)

I think I read where the sale was contingent on it NOT being broken up.

Yes the sale was contingent on the auction house not breaking it up, but once they are paid for and the new owner has them, what is to stop THEM from breaking it up?
