I still have a really hard time with Peace dollars determining if it is weak strike or light circulation on the hair over liberty's ear. But I think if this is MS it would be doomed to a 64 due to that large mark on her neck.

That heavy hit on liberty's neck looks shiny like PMD. I think it is in a genuine holder. Luster is booming i would feel comfortable with ms 63 details.

So a genuine 63? I wonder how that would show up on a holder. GE63?

What i meant was that imo that hit is heavy enough to warrant a genuine holder. Clearly the coin has UNC details again imo a 63.

I dont think the mark is bigg enough to NG so and the coin is a looker other then that huge hit and the spot on the cheek. I'd say 64 but it could fall to a 63.

Going with MS63/64. I want to start collecting Peace dollars but I still have a hard time grading them. I look at the Heritage Archives on a regular basis and can come withing a couple grade points but that can make the difference between a $350 coin and a 125

    I agree 63 - but don't doubt it's in a 64 slab.

I say if you can't tell the difference between an MS-63 and an MS-65, why pay extra for the latter? I'm building a US type collection, nice Uncs for the common types. For the scarcer types, I shoot for an a really nice AU-58. They look better than a run-of-the-mill MS-60, and I pay a heck of a lot less.
