I've not been using 2X2's long enough to know of all the down~side. But I got a box of Stainless staples and vice grips. they let me preset the depth of how far I crimp and have lots of leverage.
I use pair of small needle-nose pliers with a 45 degree bent jaws so they offset the holder. works well!
Channel locks/pliers, such a simple solution. And here I've been placing padding between the 2x2's for oh so long.
nope don't smell tape to often anymore, it started becoming habit forming so i had to stop. i was up to three rolls a day at my worst. i use acid free tape, a lot safer then any kinda staple.
Flat Clinch for me. I have 2 of them and have only had one coin scratched since I used them and that's because I put more then one in my pocket together. It was my dumb fault not the staples
So are the self adhesive flips bad? Not using a glue that will not harm your coins? How I miss the days of coin shops being everywhere. Just got back into coins and the closest shop is about 30-40 minutes with no traffic and 1-1 1/2 hr with traffic. Need quick supplies but can't stop on the way home to get it like I thought I could.
For my preference, this is the best option. Agree completely and also one of the best purchases I've made, saving me a lot of time.
Do not hammer them. You will damage some coins. There are lots of reasons to bend them over. A stack takes up less room, they won't damage other coins or holders, the chances of rust formation is greatly reduced, and they stick in vinyl pages less as well as not damaging the pages.
Needlenose for me. Gotta get a flat clinch stapler. Every time I buy supplies, I plan on getting, but then other things interfere and the stapler gets dropped from the order.
The local dealer has a tool they say some guy welded up for them. It's a pair of flat narrow plates welded onto the jaws of a pair of pliers. It's cool because you can flatten the whole staple at once instead of crimping each tine one at a time. I know it's not a big deal, but I love that tool.
