I've been buying all the PCGS and NGC slabbed 1971 - 1973 Ikes I can find in gem grades. The certified populations are really low. I'm not huge on modern/clad coinage, but it seems like high grade clad Ikes are rare and cheap. Anyone else collect Ikes?

Heck yes! Love that moon landing reverse. Anyone ever see Gasparro's original reverse design that wasn't used? Here it is.

I'm working on a NGC registry set. Still need that 71 and the 72's.

Is there a particular reason why you're only buying 1971-1973? Just curious!

Chris - 1971-1973 clad Ikes are rare in high grades....MS 65 and higher. They are conditional rarities.

    Tommy,

What about 1971-1973 Proofs? Are they fairly common in higher grades?

Do you plan on becoming the "Hunt Brothers" of the clad Ikes?

Chris - Silver proof Ikes are very common in all dates. They are, by definition, made for collectors and don't circulate. The 1971 clad Ike wasn't even included in mint sets that year. That's why there are so few in high grades. Buy 'em up, dude. That being said, I don't anticipate their being an explosion of collector interest in Ikes in the near future.

Started a set a couple of years ago and only have the 72 type 2 left to get. I have a 'raw' set and a certified set. Yes I think they are an under valued coin as well.
