    Hi folks,

    Is this site a scam?

    http://www.pennies.com/default.aspx

It sounds too good to be true. I started a collection for my 4 year old daughter and I buy inexpensive wheat pennies and silver dimes for her to start.

What exactly makes you think it is a scam?

Your local coin shop should have them for less then a nickle apiece (if not cheaper) and 1909 VDB's are $15 or less. That's $75 for the same thing they are charging $199 for ;)

May I suggest you look in the forum classified for "budgood" 5000 wheat cents offer?
I have purchased bags from Jason before and have never been disappointed.

Always a good idea to do your research - what seems too good to be true usually is, what seems totally off the wall may be a scam, may not be...research is your friend! Good Luck!

I live in Montana. There are no coin shops within 50 miles. Also, I have searched and searched and not found one site selling wheat pennies for a nickel. That would be great. I will keep searching though if that price exists.

Up at the top where it lists forum, blogs etc. Just click on Classifieds. Budgood had some 5000 count bags for 240 - less than a nickel a coin. Now my local shop just sold me 10 for less than 1.50 and they were nicer than I really wanted - but I completed 3 books. :)

You won't find one/two for 5¢ each, but large lots - absolutely. That is 5000 at 4.9¢ each. I really do not think you will be disappointed. Most likely there will be uncs, Indians, and other interesting things.

$9.95 a pound for world coins? give me a break! not to mention $5.99 a lot shipping. There was $9.99 shipping on 5 pounds. The picture with the kids and 500,00 pennies looks like one I saw on Ebay one day.

He has to be talking the original website he posted. The budgood bag is certainly worth it.

I certainly hope you are right, but it might be nice if he said that.

There was a recommendation for using budgood and RLM wanted to make sure you were not referring to him. Because he sells honest good bags of cents.

Unsearched... yeah right. And just the other day I saw Elvis sitting with Jimmy Hoffa eating Whoppers at the local Burger King.

This company is not a scam. I've dealt with them many times, I've always enjoyed what I got, and the communication and shipping time are great.

The only thing that is somewhat 'scamish' of them, which is said by many others, is the word 'unsearched'
