Were you roll searching when you found that or did something just catch your eye and you looked at it closer?
I was roll searching and it looked strange so I went in closer. Even by eye you can see the mouth looking strange makes you just have to look closer! I have gotten excited all over again... If it is a real ddo, this would be my first real error!
from that last picture, it makes it look like his eye is closed! maybe we can call it the "sleepy lincoln", "dead lincoln", or "lincoln on dope". when you get an answer please share. good luck, it would be nice to be one that discovered a new variety.
Yes, correct, I just like to say "Doubled Eye", it sounds like something else. It does look kind of big for a doubled eye, which makes me think it's maybe a die chip, but it is so perfectly located... Also, Lincoln has quite a cold sore there.
Awesome, another error variety to look for when I roll search ( and I have probably passed alot since I was unaware )
Yep! If Mike says it's doubled, I'm sure he'll want to see it in hand and take pictures. It would be worth pretty substantial money if authenticated.
I thought the line at the forehead may have been a die crack. The eye certainly looked doubled and I am not sure what the line at the mouth is. I am going to research this a bit. Hopefully, you caught a good one. I hope your cent is a true double die "eye". Regardless, keep looking and GOOD LUCK !
I told jzacknae that it would be worthwhile sending the coin to James Wiles for his evaluation. I think it has promise, but the photo's resolution is too poor for any determination from afar.
Alien lincoln is my vote! I think if anyone was searching rolls this wouldn't slip past them. So I would say this is the first seen because it stands out.
I was going to suggest checking out briansvarietycoins.com and then I discovered that the web master is an official attributer for John Wexler.
