I see that the gov't is thinging about a rule change on ASE silver proofs to have 800,000 minted instead of providing enough bullion to meet demand.... would it help to contact legislators on the commitee or our state people to encourage this???

Yes. I have. Both last year and again this year. Have to get our message to the offices in Washington, so do write to your elected officials.

I imagine this would drive demand which would increase the cost? Any chance then that silver in general would raise in price?

800,000 ASE would be a high mintage.

Top five highest mintages for Proof ASE collector coins, from 2010 Red Book:

    1986-S Proof ASE 1,446,778

    1987-S Proof ASE 904,732

    2004-W Proof ASE 801,602

    2003-W Proof ASE 747,831

    2001-W Proof ASE 746,398

People will buy them up because of all the hysteria. The program has been in existance for over 20 years and only 3 years have they gone over 800k. This will be the fourth year....and boy will there be heck to pay. When it is all said and done, some one will come crawling out of their rock that they have been living under for the past two years and throw a fit when they don't get one. These will be selling for double on the secondary market for many years to come. Just my take on things. I say let the craziness begin!

Agreed, if they authorize 800k they will be a complete sell out.

    Probably.

Here I don't agree. I think at FIRST they will go crazy on the aftermarket, but then after a year or so it will dawn on people that it is one of the most common issues and the price will plummet and a lot of people who bought up a bunch for speculation (especially if they bought them on the aftermarket) will be will be upset because of the price drop and will then try and blame the Mint for making too many.

Impossible to say what the exact sales figure / mintage will be if released, but the number might be over 800,000 as mentioned in CoinNews.net citing US Mint Dir. Moy who said up to 830,000 could be minted.

Would they only be minting proofs or would this 800,000 include UNC verisons too?

I have not heard/read of any comment indicating whether that figure represents the overall total for collector versions or if that 830,000 figure implies only proofs or a split between unc and proof coins. Whichever it is the US Mint's subscription page still shows two separate 2010 ASE subscriptions that you may already sign up for: 2010 unc and 2010 proof collector versions.

Is there anyway of finding out how many ASE Proofs have been subscribed / ordered already? At what point does the US Mint prevent folks from subscribing to an issue which is not authorized or scheduled to be released?

What happens if someone subscribes to 20 and they are over subscribed. Are orders filled on a FIFO basis or ...?

    thanks

    Consult Karnack the magnificent.

They'll just make the subscription unavailable.

If they allow you to subscribe to 20 then you're in for 20. If, however, they decide to limit folks on these they'll probably roll your subscription back to that set (limit) number. Should be interesting to see what they do if these coins are indeed minted this year
