I have a 1983 pound coin, it looks genuine except it has no edge lettering, but the milling is there, is this rare?
first welcome to ct. and i hope you stick around. you need to post a full pic of the coin and then show the error. as to the other coins that you speak about . i hope this helps. there are lads and gals that know these coins here some times you have to wait. dave
Yes latest estimates is one out of every 67 pound coins in circulation in Great Britain is a counterfeit. When they first started complaining aout them it was one in 200, then it went to 1 in 100. Now 1 in 67. You coin is pretty marked up which sems to be common with the counterfeits, but they are really too close in to tell us anything. Pictues of the edge would also be useful.
Well it is 27 years old, but look how sharp the letters are, has anybody ever herd of a real pound with no edge lettering?
Here we are. I guess what I want to know is it it real, personally I think it is as I'm s**t hot at spotting fake pound coins, and is it of any worth, thankyou?
The 1st 1983 £1 coin had a milled edge with a crosslet mint mark on it to represent Llantrisant in South Wales, where the Royal Mint has been based since 1968, it was the 1st pound coin issued Check yours to see if it has a small cross on the edge As for forged £1 coins it is estimated that there are some £30 million worth in circulation
