I ordered a MC proof back in August for my father in law. At the time they said it would ship in September. That changed to November and for the past month the status says in stock and reserved. If it is in stock why on earth hasn't it shipped yet? All my inquiries to the mint just get the standard demand for this coin was very high and we are working very hard to fufill orders.

Did the mint oversell this and I'm really just going to be out of luck?

Howdy Dixiebuzzard - Welcome to the Forum !!

The total mintage for the Marine commem was 500,000 - those sold out. Then they added and additional 100,000 to the mintage - those sold out too. Now I have no idea how many as yet unfulfilled orders there are for this coin. But there is a chance you will still receive it. There is also a chance you will not. Time will tell.

In this time of War, with our Marines in the thick of it in Iraq, I beleive the mint grossly underestimated the demand for these coins.

With our new respect for the military, you have to think of all the Marines that served in Viet Nam, Korea, and the survivors of WWII. Maybe survivors
is the wrong word. GOD bless the survivors, but the ones that gave it all, and their families, number in the millions.

I feel bad for the Marine who served, or a family member, that want one of these coins, and now have to spend $100 or more to get one...........

Well I just got an email from the mint that they've shipped the proof. So I guess there's a Santa after all. My FIL will be so thrilled. He'll be showing it off to his Marine buddies. I'm hoping the mail will get it to me before Xmas!
