I've been given the task of sorting out my Dad's numerous coin jars. Slightly familiar with everything but these. What should I keep/spend? All circulated pieces. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got 99 of them from a bank a while back, went to the ikegroup site and got a list of errors to look for. I did get some of the different types in the lot.

Oh and some ikes are 40% silver, I didn't get any of those though.

The last Ike with silver in for circulation was 1971 when the Mint ended silver content in circulation strikes. There are silver proof Ikes and burnished strikes.

If you get a 100 of them, you can bag them and try selling them for $30 - $45 over face. A couple of dealers I do business with sell 100 Ike bags for $45 over face.

The 1971 was not for circulation, it was only available to collectors straight from the mint in either uncirculated or proof form.

The last US coins made for circulation from any silver alloy were the 1970 Kennedy Half Dollars (both uncirculated and proof) in 40% silver clad. Ike dollars were also made in a 40% silver clad composition from 1971-1976 in both Proof and Uncirculated. These coins were sold to collectors directly from the US Mint and were never intended for circulation. All circulation (intended) Ikes are clad. Occasionally you may find one of the 40% in circulation, but they were sold at a premium so someone lost when they went took one to the bank.

The last silver Ike was the 1976 bicentennial issue, though none of the silver Ikes were actually produced for circulation.

Hmmm I thought only some (NIFC) of the 1976 ikes had 40% silver, never heard of any other year with silver content

Oh I'd already looked it up, pretty cool. Also interesting that there were a few silver 1977s that slipped out. I have a brown ike myself so I do know of the silver ones. I only mentioned it to the OP because you should be on the lookout for silver ikes even if they were not intended for circulation.
