Shane, If that is the case, then I can safely assume that the 1883-O luster is better in hand than in the photos. Personally, I find the PCGS 1884 the most attractive. However, I believe that NGC would find the toning to be too variegated to warrant a star designation.
The coin is all there lee....good luster for the date and amazing color with textile on the cheek.....but again NGC already passed on the star once and I can post dozens of coins not this nice that got the star so we know that their opinion is all that matters on that given day.
Latest Update! I got the Morgans from Shane this morning. The 1883-O is the VAM-4 O/O (Strong) Top 100. It wasn't attributed by NGC, and more than likely it was probably because the original submitter cared more about the toning and didn't even realize that it was the VAM-4. This happens quite often, and if the submitter doesn't check the box for the variety service, it will not be attributed. Chris Oops! Forgot the photo.
Still undecided about toners, but man that 1883 is amazing. Nice coins to add to any collection no matter what.
Wow I missed this thread. Thanks for the heads up Chris. I was liking that 84 the most. That is some nice toning for sure and I think a Star would be in order. But then you found that Vam... that would probably sway me back to it in the end. Nice pick ups for sure and I might have to get that phone number for Kryptonitecomic
Brilliant ladies ya got there Chris! I love that blue 1904-O and have the perfect guy for her, meet Paul Karason
Sorry, Duke, but it would be up to Shane to give you his number. He's a new member here, though, so you can send him a PM. Chris
Yea Chris I would expect that as I put the at the end. I have also read many post of his in some other forum. I just don't post there much.
What a rookie mistake...not checking the vam...doh!!! Oh well at least the coin went to a friend who can appreciate Morgan die varities lol
Look at the bright side, Shane. The VAM doesn't add any to the value. The toning still outweighs it in that respect. According to the VAMView Price Guide, it's only worth about $125 in MS64 irrespective of the beautiful, gorgeous, lovely textile toning. By the way, all three of these Morgans really are outstanding, and your photos are "spot on"! Chris
