1945 copperish can. nickel

    I was given acollection of nickels and the 1945 can. nickel was not a silver or nickel colored it was a darker color did they make any nickels that year out of a different metal and could someone its value thanks kmon41

    Canadian five cent pieces were made of Tombac, a kind of brass, in 1942 and 1943, and of chomium-plated steel in 1944 and 1945. Chromium has a similar color to nickels, so because your coin is dark it's possible that it may just be rusty.

    In any event, none of these coins has any significant value in most grades.

    if you have a 45 Tombac that would be a great rarity. Start by posting a picture.
