    hey guys,

i was looking in the local newspaper when I found a coin offer for a cased set of 1936- 1958 linoln cents in average circulated condition. What shocked me is that they were giving it away for free (including the shell case and steel cents) with only shipping and handling (5 bucks) to pay. This set is being offered by a company called National consumer marketing which i have only seen twice in the newspaper before. It is only available by toll-free phone ordering (which means giving the credit card number) and im not sure if its a good company or a fake. One thing that has me kind of suspicious is the street is blandly called Commecial Street. Should I order this or is it some kind of scam???

Sets like this are routinely offered in local newspapers around the country. They are usually accompanied by a large ad full of a bunch of hype about how rare and valuable the coins are. Well they're not rare and they certainly aren't valuable.

You could go visit just about any coin shop and buy these very same coins for less than the advertised price. Or if you wish you could find them all for face value - 22 cents - by spending a bit of time looking.

I wouldn't buy it, even for $5. It may or may not be a scam but even if it's legit consider this. Once you order that set, they have your name/address and will likely place you on a mailing list so you could be inundated with other offers through the mail. And consider this...if you provide your phone number that opens the door for them to call you with offers, even if your name/number is on the national do not call registry.

    Hi chevy,

I'd stay away from that, if I were you.
Without seeing the ad, I can't tell you what the "catch" is, but I'd be willing to bet there is one.
May be a "coins on approval" service, or something else, but you can buy common wheat cents, from a reliable sourse, with no strings attached, and not have to worry about getting into something you're not sure of.
