i change some rolls of nickel and quarter from a bank. i am trying to search some au state quarters and westward journey nickels. i found many au statehood qaurters. but i can not find any westward journey nickels. i wonder where those nickels went?. maybe most people bought it double or more over face value. and they don't to spent it at the moment.

furthermore, i also got 6 pc of jefferson nickels dated 1940 to 1949 in fine condition.

    I found 11 early Jefferson Nickels: 1939 - 1950 at the casino.

My trick to not getting kicked out. Buy $20 worth of nickels in rolls. Open them into a cup - Look at your nickel, if it's a regular, you put it into the machine and play 5 cent bets only! Make sure you have a funcard to add up the points! hehehe After 6 hours, I found the 11 nickels and I had my choice of some beautiful new Buffalo Nickels and even some westward journey nickels. I figured after I added my points that I went through a couple hundred dollars in nickels. The 11 I found were nothing spectacular, but still collectable. The casino will NOT kick you out as long as you gamble! But gambling at 5 cents a bet and nice and slow like that believe it or not is quite even betting :) As a matter of fact, I came out $5 ahead after 6 hours of straight gambling and I drank at least 5 or 6 complimentary colas! hehehe I don't advocate gambling for the most part, but it's difficult to lose much money with nickel bets and even if I did lose the $5 or $10 the next time, I'd chalk it up as a service fee for being able to #1 have some fun and #2 be able to check as many darn coins as I wanted! :goofer: Of course, I tried this with quarters and I must say I did go through quite a lot! But your money goes 10 times faster! Not sure if the machines are geared to do that or what, so if you're into not losing much money, get a book - study which nickels rock and stick with those!

I was even until the last 3 nickels and then I won $5 big ones. I live way in Upper Michigan - Snow Belt, so we're behind the times. I do see things are going to those 2 cent machines and you get a printed voucher for your winnings. I'm sure it won't be long and coins unfortunately will be phased out of gambling altogether. It sure was a nice/cheap way to search a lot of coins in one evening.

the best way is to go to casino and change a lot of coins. kennedy halves, statehood quarters, and westward journey nickels. but do not play there. keep searching. a win win. right?. i remember before. during 1980's. i went there to search for kennedy halves. both clad and 40% silver. i did got some. i miss the ike dollars.

I just go to a bank and request a bag of pennies or a bag of nickels. The pennies come in a $50 bag and the nickels I get are in $100 bags. I take my time going through them all and then return them to another bank. Some banks charge for returning coins but not if you have an account there so I just open accounts in about 10 banks with the minimum. The thing is to look for mint errors as well as just low mintage or coins to fill a slot in an album.

I stopped for gas tonight, and noticed some half dollars in the change drawer. I asked the cashier if I could have them, and she said " Sure-then I don't have to count them". There were six-a 1979-P Kennedy, a 1974-D Kennedy, and to my surprise, four Franklin halves! They were 1954-D, a 1958-D, a 1959-D, and a 1962-D, grades vary from about Fine to XF. Great face value Christmas present. :D

at queens, new york. the three banks that i went to and change some rolls of nickels and quarters. it came out that 25% to 33% of quarters were statehoods. or around 10 to 14 pc statehoods out of 40. and only 5% or 2 westward journey out of 40. the statehood quarters were quite many. but the westward journey is too rare to find one. i hope ocean in view nickels will flow the general public by next year. since fewer people bought that one.

after a month of searching from the bank circulated rolls. i still managed to get only about 5 % from those rolls with westward journey nickels. total pieces that i got is 42. one au +, 40 au to ef +, and one ef + with damaged. now i rather buy few rolls of uncirculated nickels. save time and effort.

Most of the big casino's in Las Vegas still have nickel slots. They help get us "low rollers" in the door, so its still worth it to them to keep operating them. I'm just wishing I had returned to coin collecting prior to my last trip there. Oh well, if there's a next time......

That what I was thinking, I went to Vegas about 5 years in a row before I got back into collecting. I could have had a good time searching halves. Now I here most casinos are switching to coinless slot machines with winings printed on paper.

My best find was last Dec.at a local estate auction, There were more than the usual amount of coins at this auction and not a lot of people there. I looked over the coins, nothing really grabbed my eye. While waiting for the auctioneer to get to the coins I went back to see if I missed anything of interest, There was a plastic bag of 4 half dimes and one dime, I scribbled down the dates and went back to my chair and looked them up in my redbook, saw nothing really great but noticed that IF that dime was an 1885s I'M interested! I sat in my chair wondering what are the chances of a coin with only 43,690 mintage be of showing up in this small town. Well I went back and asked to see it again, well damn! it is an 1885s!. It was very hard to see it thru the plastic and the coin is very dark. I thought no way I'll get it, the bidding will go thru the roof! When it came up for bid I just held my card up until bidding was done, well it ended soon as apparently no one else noticed the mintmark in the dark and thru the plastic. The coin is very dark as some of those old dimes get. I checked several sites and located only 2 that were for sale over the last 3 yrs. A very good deal for $65. I got another very good deal last nite but cant describe as I dont have the coin yet. All that searching occasionally pays off.
