Folks, I am currently looking at buying a 1916-d "mercury" dime. It is PCGS certified at G-06, and I verified that through the PCGS serial number and web site. In the online pictures it looks nice for the grade. However, I am unable to see it in person.

This is the last coin I need to complete my date / mint mark set of "mercury" dimes.

The asking price is $1100. I'm thinking about offering $1000. What do you advise?

Is this on eBay? What's the seller's history like? At least 99% with at least a triple-digit positive replies history? Return policy?

I think you'll do alright if you can pick it up for $1,000. With G-4s marketing in the $1,000 range, a Good-plus should be a nice pick up at one grand. Good luck!!

I'd say quadruple or even quintuple if you're buying on eBay for key dates.

This is NOT on ebay. It's currently being advertised on Collector's Corner, which is not an auction site. The asking price is $1100 but haggling is allowed.

The seller is Liberty Coins in Richmond, VA.

Liberty coins I have dealt with once. They were on time, and quite accurate. However I don't know if anyone else had pleasant experiences.

    Thanks

Make the offer. Haggling is the only way you can get something for what you're willing to pay.

    UPDATE: I bought it.

They didn't come down as far as I wanted, but from the pictures it looks nice for the grade. I checked on their return policy and if pictures don't match reality I'll be ok to return it. The fact it's PCGS certified (and I verified the serial number online) is a big thing with an often-counterfeited coin like this. If it was raw I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
