Have him send it...they will leave a note in you box telling you that there is a box at the Post Office that you need to go down and get...try that.
I still say that I agree with the seller...I wouldn't want to send a $700 coin to anyone without somekind of way of known who got it and when.

The pickup location is not close and I don't want to play tag with the delievery people.

Let him do like the auction said, or he can keep it and hope someone else is willing to pay for the coin what I was willing to.

Did his auction say he would send it without a Sig??...Ruben...I'm sorry but I don't see your point...if you want to back out of the auction tell the guy...but if you want the coin there are ways that make both guys happy...have him send it UPS or FedX or a number of other ways...and if you don't want to go down to the post office and pick up one coin...then WHY did you buy it...surely it is worth the trip down there.....

It said insurance was optional and now its mandatory...

A Sig for the package isn't Insurance...I would say Insurance is still optional...more than likely he thought the coin would go for book value and therefor no need for this type of thing....but since it went for soooo hyped up....I bet he wants some kind of way of knowing that it got to the buyer.
I track all of my ebay sales....that is in the shipping charge...sometimes I don't charge enough and have to pay out of my pocket but I still want to know when it gets there so they can't say it never got to them.

But it is the insurance which requires the signature. Otherwise the auction is silent on the issue.

Buy the post office? Not according to him. Is US Post Office Priority Insured imply no signature?

I think you might be right. So why is this guy so intransient....

    Yep---
BTW--the reason I said UPS is because that they have a tracking on all packages and they also leave them without you signing I think....at least around here they do...

I'll call him tomorrow and see what he thinks, although the last conversation was pretty corrosive of all trust.

Is there someplace he CAN ship it where there will someone you can trust to sign for it?

It looks like someone needs to invest $5 in a sniping program. This coin could have been won for $405 if Ruben had used a sniper instead of continually increasing his bid and forcing his competition (who should invest in a sniper too) to raise his bid.

That said, it appears that the bidding on this was on the up-an-up as there is no obvious connection between the seller and Ruben's competition.

addition to my previous post now that I've read the rest of the thread...

Any time that there is insurance (through the USPS) then I am required to sign a little salmon colored sheet when I take receipt of the package. That is different from Delivery confirmation (which is required by Paypal for the seller to be protected by Paypal). Delivery Confirmation merely means that the postman scans the DC barcode before he places the package into your mail receptacle.

Now, did he charge you a fee for insurance Rueben? If so, I think you have a legitimate gripe, but if not, then that means he is paying for additional services (that protect him) out of his own pocket. I don't see how you have any right to complain about that.

This is one of the reasons that I absolutely DREAD dealing with newbies on eBay. When I see that one (or more) of my auctions has/have been won by someone with a short eBay track-record I cringe because I know that the liklihood of a problem is exponentially increased. I apologize if that is an unfair representation of you Rueben, but it has been true in my experience. (I am a PowerSeller with 100% positive feedback over 8000+ transactions, including 7500+ that received feedback from 920 unique users).

He can ship it anyway he wants as long as I don't have to be here to meet the delievery man.

    Hello Ruben,

Thank you for taking the time to write eBay with your concerns. I'm
sorry to hear about this situation. My name is Sarina and I'm happy to
    help you further.

I have reviewed listing #8358749828 and can confirm that the seller
listed the insurance cost as following: "Shipping insurance US $1.30
Optional". Reading this in the auction, I would also assume that
    insurance is NOT required.

The type of activity you've reported is a violation of our policies.
Under most circumstances, when a member sells an item on eBay, he or she
is obligated to complete the sale following the terms set up in the item
listing. With this in mind, we advise all members to use their best
    judgment when completing a transaction.

.........when will you see that he is doing it not only for you but for his safety too.....there hasn't been any violation...no collector that loves his coins want one sitting in the mail box for who knows how long....that is the best place for a person to....steal it.....he wants to be safe....he wants the coin to be safe for you and so you can be happy....have you asked??...is he paying for the extra cost of that serivce??
I feel sorry for you Ruben---I know you are new on ebay and not used to the way it works---but ebay ISN'T a safe market place...its full of cheats and everything else just waiting to get your money...it doesn't have to be much...it might be $10 they want....or it might be $1000....and sellers and buyers must play the safe game.
