saw this during my usual shopping. decided i wanted to have myself a problem free large cent. theres a little verdigris but i still like it alot. it costs me 625. 1794 S-65.
Very sweet indeed. I love that obverse. On the reverse I just wish the hint of green was not in the upper left. Still it is a very nice coin. I did not try to verify the attribute for the coin - Marshall could do it in seconds, but I would have to go dig up my book. Nice addition to your collection!
This is a very nice pickup. I've just studied this particular variety and will soon receive my second S-65, though neither was purchased as an S-65. Now the bad news. It's not problem free. The verdigris around the edges of the reverse need conservation to prevent further corrosion. If you are a dealer, you just try to flip it reasonably quickly. If you are a collector, then you can get advice on the optimal method of conserving it depending on whether you want the verdigris removed (NCS) or simply deactivated with a product like verdi-care which BradThad formulated. My opinion it that the latter may be preferable. The obverse does look problem free though. The buckling in the center of the reverse almost imitates the rarer NC-6, but it's NOT. That's the mistake I just made and wrote about in the 'I did it again' thread. It is definitely a step above my usual scudzy accumulation though.
Nice looking S-65. I've got to agree with Marshall on treating the vertigris. You have to stop it before it gets worse. Verdi-Care is a great product, available from many dealers. If you can't find a source send a PM message to BadThad, he created it and he will be able to point you to a source. Again, congrats on the pickup
not even use verdicare? i guess i wouldnt mind buying a bottle of stuff to use but i would need someone more experienced to apply it. honestly i wouldnt mind leaving it as is in the airtite also.
If it were my coin I would want to stop the verdigris, unchecked it will continue to grow. Search old threads seems I remember something a while back about actually using Verdi-Care. You can always PM BadThad and ask questions as well.
NGC has a coin conservation service. This might be a prime candidate for that to get rid of the verdigris and prevent further deterioration. Any experts care to comment on that?
