It sure brings to light how important educating oneself is when collecting coins of high value. It could save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Don't take things for face value (so to speak).

Did they each say Copy or replica on the reverse? Everytime I look at fakes on ebay it usually says it on the coin. Do they actually get stamped or is that just some crap to be legit?

I didn't guess but looked a bunch of times. I know nothing about gold coins so didn't even know where to start

By law these coins must be marked copy or replica.... they are shown this way when they are sold and that's why EBay lets them continue to sell them but when people order them they show up at your house with no stamps or markings at all.

Look closely at In God We Trust on 2 & 3 and you'll see they both came from the same reverse die. And the right end of the branch is wrong on all of them.

But #4 had me worried because of the streaks, looked like some plated coins do. The others I was almost certain were fakes. 4 I just wasn't sure about one way or the other.

For those of you who didn't realize that #1 and #2 coins were fake, an easy way to tell is to look at the picture of their reverse. Notice how most (or all, hard to tell with lighting) of the lettering is raised instead of incused.

i am glad you made this thread, i am thinking of ordering 1 or two off ebay, in hopes of teaching a few people around my area that buying these raw is not a good idea. the one guy has 2 that if were showed here, would probably think i was joking, that anyone would think it was legit.

problem is, i don't want to give these counterfeiters any more money! i will think about it and probably order a few, to do just what you did but only in person for some people. i will take pictures and print them, then the first test will see if they can identify the fakes that way. then will do an in hand test.

I think I'll stay with coins in reputable TPG slabs. It's too dangerous out there for my level of detection ability.
