$4 in halves from bank i was closing my account with- nothing (didn't check for varieties yet)

$1 in halves at my new bank that i hope to get on a first name basis- 1 40%

Also got lots of coins from them today, hopefully some silver!

Got a AU/BU 1938 Jefferson Nickel in my change today!!! $10 in halves yeilded 1 40%er.

 

Went thru a box of halves and found nothing, went thru my final box of pennies for the year and found a 1929 wheat penny.

Went thru 3 boxes of nickels and found 2 war nickels, 1 was BU.

 

I do not have a metal detector but I recall seeing someone post in this forum in the last week or so that they were going to some beach to do some metal detecting. If I recall correctly they said they report if they found any silver. There is senior member whose handle is "Kanga" here on CT.

 

OOPS, yeah this was the one I read. Well Chester did you find the 50 dower bills to save the goondocks?

Ha, nope. I found about $6 in clad on the beach this past weekend. No Silver coins yet for me. But when I do find them, I will post on here and my metal detecting board.

 

Here we go...

Starting last month, I decided to get 2 boxes of halves each month to go through. For my first 2 boxes, I didn't know what to expect, but thought my results were pretty good....1-90%, 11-40%, 1-'53 Franklin, 1-1988 Proof, 5-2002+. Again, being my first 2 boxes, I didn't know if that was good, bad, or average, but I was pretty pleased. I would have been very bummed to have been skunked on a box. Yesterday I got my next 2 boxes and was floored with my results.

First box - 1-90%, 5-40%, 3-Franklins, 4-Walking Liberties

I was very pleased with this box. I was shocked to find the Walkers...I could see how someone turning in coin might not realize some Kennedys are silver, or even that Franklins are worth more than face...but Walking Liberties?? I would have though people would guess they are worth more than $.50 and pull them out of circulation. That is, until I opened the next box.

Second box - 5-90%, 6-40%, 10-Franklins, 24-Walking Liberties!!!

Never would I have expected to find that much silver in a box, plus the fact that most were Frankies and Walkers. I don't know if where I live (Western Mass.) nobody is checking boxes of halves, or if they are and I just got real lucky, but wow. I would say about half of the 50 rolls in that box had silver...some rolls had 3 or 4. When I cracked the box open, and looked at the 50 halves showing, 2 Walker reverses and a '64 obverse were staring at me. Had a pretty good idea then, that it was going to be a good box. Only one downside to my find...I have a feeling every box I open from here on out is going to be a bit of a let down compared to this one. Thats ok...after this haul, I'm probably due to get shut out on a couple boxes, but I guess I'll still be ahead of the game. I hope the rest of you roll searchers out there can catch the same luck I did yesterday!

Does anyone have any experience ordering boxes from credit unions? Or is that primarily a bank service?

I went through 10 rolls of cents and found 3 common wheats and some copper memorials...

 

24 walkers!!! WOW, THAT IS INCREDIBLE!!! In nearly 70 boxes searched I've found 1 walker. Don't think it can get too much better for you though. Your're gonna be like a drug addict wanting to get that first high again. I do hope your luck keeps going. Wow.

 

I am crazy jealous. Up until today I have been just cleaning out whatever rolls my local banks had, just to see as well as just in case. I finally went through all of them and ordered my first box. Got it today and went through the whole thing to find one 40%. Congrats on your amazing find!

 

I took a extended lunch break today and went to 8 banks.
I found 17 loose halves at one bank
$50 of CWR at another
$70 of CWR at another
$110 of CWR at another.

I was very excited.........until I opened them. 3 40%ers was the total haul of $230 CWR and $8.50 loose.

My luck has been quite low lately.....

 

You have probably been asked this before but do get any grief when you ask for halves at banks you do not have an account with?

 

Went through one box and another $250 in CWR and got a 2008 proof. It is a little banged up, but a nice find. I was hoping for something a little more like fjb6673 got. I seem to be doing ok with every other box, so hopefully the next one will be good. Wasn't someone going to try the boxes by the DE/MD beaches?

 

got my halves and pennies the other day so far found 2 "S" mint halves one is black the other also has some damage. Found a BU 2002-D. No silver though.
Pennies found some nice rainbow toned ones, lots of 2009, 2000 wide am, like 6 wheaties, and two candians.

 

2 boxes of dimes, 2 silvers. FJB, my girlfriend was up there in NH and didn't order **** like I told her to, many times...

I'm quite mad at her now...
