Which of our members are canadian experts or advanced collectors? I ask because I have been finding some older canadian where I live and I have some general questions about some of it.
Me, for Large Cents. Or join the Canadian Coin Reference site (CCRS) where there are scores of E's in all decimal series. Send me a PM.
because I am starting to delve into canadian coinage and I don't have specific questions yet per se, more of a want of a feel for canadian numismatics, how to grade, where to go, etc. It is something that is amorphous at this time. I do own a Charlton's which I figure is the equivalent to a red book so I am heading in the right direction, but I need some base knowledge, doing my homework I guess.
Bq, I would suggest a visit to Snaz's Forum.. Mostly Canadian Copper but there are knowledgeable people there in most areas. http://www.canadiancoppercoins.com/
And I am the Moderator on Snaz's site. I was also in the small cadre who put together the Victoria Large Cent variety section in the 2011 edition for Charlton. Many of my coins are the ones in the book. Snaz has a good site .. it's young, but growing. CCRS is 11 years old and well-established, with the highest of high collectors, authors, dealers, and the newest of newbies all together discussing neat things Canadian.
I find this site very handy for Canadian coins. Not only is it a price guide, if you click on the dates on the variety coins, many will give detailed info and pictures of them (note: you need to scoll down to see the pics.) http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php For example, clicking on "1979 double 979" cent date, the following appears at the bottom of the page: More errors and varieties 1 cent 1979 - Die clashes (Image #11) 1 cent 1979 - Double left leaf (Image #198) 1 cent 1979 - Double Regina (Image #199) 1 cent 1979 - Double queen's face (Image #155) 1 cent 1979 - Retarded coin (Image #65) 1 cent 1979 - Off center (Image #196) 1 cent 1979 - Dot between C and E of Cent (Image #83) 1 cent 1979 - Extra metal under the queen's throat (Image #197)
