I don't neccessarily hate them, but I get really tired of seeing them on ebay when I am searching for the real thing. They shouldn't be allowed in the sections with the real coins. They don't even look like the real coins. :headbang:
replicas It especially sucks when they don't say replica, or copy any where in the ad. And the great big bold come on ad, you read down and find it aint nothing but an imatation. And some rookie with one or 2 feedbacks has a bid on it. JonySky
Replicas are bad, and then there are the re works, where they shine them up and stuff to make them look nice. They did that a lot to the steel penneys since they corroded so badly, it really degrades the value, but they sell them to novices like they are worth as much as the real thing, poor newbies get jipped and someone makes a lot of money off of them.
I have 3 in my collection.. pure silver. 1928-P peace dollar 1964-D peace dollar 1995-W American Silver Eagle. I'll probably only see 1 of the 3 in my lifetime, and in the mean time, I can say my collection is complete. They are attractive and every bit as professional as the real thing.
I own one - a replica of the $20 gold piece carried by Lt. George Dixon of the CSS Hunley. It stopped a bullet at Shiloh and saved Dixon's life. It was found aboard the Hunley when it was raised from the ocean floor outside Charleston harbor in August 2000.
I do Not like replicas. Others may, and I suppose that's fine. I however have no interest in owning them. They are along the same lines as colored coins or things like that to me. No interest.
I curse the replicas all over the Ancient Section in Ebay, they are a nuisance, and often not even noted as replicas in the auction title. Frankly I think sellers of such effluence should be hung from a power line. :mouth:
It isn't the replicas I hate - I reserve that emotion for the scumbags who sell them as if they were genuine.
I fully agree... I have no problem with replicas as long as they are honestly sold as replicas and not being passed off as the real thing. I personally think eBay should have a separate category for such. I actually own a replica of a 1652 Masachusetts pine tree shilling. I knwe it wasn't real when I bought it and don't mind... it's a good example of what it looked like, and I'd hardly be able to afford the real thing in any decent condition, lol.
